Abstract
The purpose of this capstone was to address the question, How to incorporate literacy strategies into Family Consumer Science Classes? The inspiration of this capstone came from realizing the importance of literacy in various forms. The capstone highlights the author's journey toward this question, focusing on personal experiences relating to literacy. Relevant research relating to reading strategies is highlighted in the work. Methods used to gain further insight to the focus question include action research. The action research takes place in a high school Family Consumer Science class. Here, students' use before, during, and after reading strategies. The results show the benefits of incorporating literacy strategies into content area classes.
