Abstract
My capstone question is -- how do students who participated in the in the Promising Scholars of Tomorrow (an intense support and mentoring program) describe their experience? Former program participants were surveyed in 2009, three years after the program ended. The survey results support the positive impact of participating in PST. PST was created to deal with problems faced by African American males in sports (football & basketball). This demographic can have a distorted view of education that is not one developed on their own. Many student athletes have the talent to receive a free or partially free education but often leave college without a degree. The author discusses why athletes, educators, and administrative staff should change this.
