Abstract
The research question addressed is, what comprehension strategies must one focus on and what are the characteristics of an elementary reading curriculum that will enhance reading comprehension? This capstone provides an explanation, based on theories from leading researchers in the area of reading comprehension, as to why one should teach connections, visualizing, questioning, inferences, determining importance, and synthesizing. In addition, a series of focus lessons have been developed and are included. These lessons are to be used as a guide for an educator when instructing students in reading.
