Course Description
This course provides an opportunity to students to read, learn, discuss, and write about 10 of the world’s most pressing issues. While some topics for this course are chosen by the instructor, students will have a chance to select at least three of the 10 issues we will examine in detail. Among the topics to be covered are the following: (1) Role of Culture and Religion in International Relations; (2) Human Rights and Humanitarian Intervention; (3) Refugees, Immigrants, and Internally Displaced People, and (4) Private Armies and the Future of Warfare. Students will be required to do in-class writings and peer reviews. They will also complete a research paper, which they will present to class at the end of the semester. Because this is a writing-intensive FYSem, you do not need to register for English 1110.
