Course Description
In this course we will use different frames of reference to analyze and understand the art of the story. Sometimes we will function as anthropologists—seeking to understand how culture influences story construction and how our experiences shape responses. Sometimes we will be historians looking at the background events that define a particular narrative. Sometimes we will be literary scholars examining the use of language and symbol in generating meaning and sometimes we will be artists, crafting stories in different style and forms to share with others. Course readings range from Oedipus Rex to the modern graphic novel Fun Home. Because this is a writing-intensive FYSem, you do not need to register for English 1110.
