Course Description
This course explores the practical and theoretical foundations of the arts in health field. The main focus is to facilitate an understanding of the relationship of creativity to health using the elements and principles of art. Topics include integrating arts education programs in healthcare settings, arts across the lifespan, developmental stages in children’s drawings, exhibition installation, safety issues, cultural concerns, and developing visual art curricula. This class is a prerequisite for ART 3990 Arts in Health Internship Experience (Spring 2014; registration for ART 3990 Arts in Health Internship Experience is optional and seats are limited). This course is intended for and satisfies a requirement towards the Public Health Sciences major. Prerequisite: HSCI 1100 Introduction to Public Health or Permission of Art Department Chair.
