Course Description
In this First-year Seminar, we'll nurture the mathematician's and philosopher's love of problems and puzzles. We'll solve problems from all over mathematics (mathematics you already know, or can easily learn) because you learn to solve problems by solving problems, and solving problems is fun. We'll then go on to consider what a problem is in history, in literature, in art, in biology, in economics, and what constitutes a solution in these fields. Can the strategies learned in mathematical problem solving be fruitful in other endeavors?
