Course Description
This course has two major purposes: first, to introduce participants to the major concepts of modern sociolinguistics and some of the important issues and figures of this discipline; second, to work out and apply these understandings to educational situations, particularly those in which students who speak a second language or non-standard dialect confront mainstream educational practices.
