Abstract
Assessment is a critical part of developing subject achievement and promoting student learning and motivation. Differentiated assessment is a form of assessment that takes the differences between students into consideration and offers students choice in how they display their learning and knowledge. Students need multiple ways to demonstrate their learning. This capstone explores the question: How can a choice of differentiated assessments lead to better quality assessments and a more accurate assessment of student knowledge in 7th grade United States History students? This project offers students a choice of differentiated assessments for the units in a middle school social studies class. There are many benefits to offering differentiated assessments for students. Teachers can respond to the needs of all different types of learners. Students feel valued, and they are more engaged when given differentiated assessment options.
