Abstract
The purpose of this project is to improve student engagement by focusing on collaborative learning as the primary method of pedagogy. Included within the project is a detailed unit outline, with learning objectives, activities, and assessments included. The lessons include a variety of activities such as group discussions and debates, examining primary sources, group projects, and analyzing political cartoon. All the activities have been modified in order to promote the importance of the collaborative process. A goal of the project is to show how individual activities can be modified to incorporate methodical collaborative learning techniques. The research and literature reviewed through this project supports the importance of collaboration while explaining the best approaches of grouping students and grading group work.
