Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was, what is the impact of interdisciplinary literacy teaching on overall achievement? It is noted in the documents that interdisciplinary literacy teaching has a positive effect on student achievement in the content areas of the interdisciplinary instruction. The capstone project is an International Baccalaureate interdisciplinary unit of the two content areas of Language and Literature and Individuals and Societies with the common theme of the American Revolutionary War. This unit is for fifth graders participating in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program. It integrates all the components of the International Baccalaureate interdisciplinary unit, including key concept, related concepts, global context, and statement of inquiry. Throughout the interdisciplinary unit the concepts and statement of inquiry are reinforced for a deeper understanding of the content.
