Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was, what does a teacher need to understand in order to teach successfully at an international school in a foreign country? The author reviewed literature on the topics of international schools, culture, and language acquisition. Multicultural education and culturally responsive teaching were key influences of this study. Research was conducted through open-ended interviews with teachers and administrators from international schools in nine countries. The single most important finding from both the literature and the original research of this project is the importance of understanding culture
