Abstract

The research question addressed in this project was, what does a teacher need to understand, in order to teach successfully at an international school in a foreign country? The capstone highlights research in the areas of international schools, multicultural education, culturally responsive teaching, and ESL/EFL language acquisition. The author took research from these areas of literature to formulate open-ended interview questions to give to participants. Results showed that teachers need to understand the host country's culture and well as their own culture, teachers need to exhibit characteristics of flexibility and patience, amongst other intriguing findings
