Abstract
This study responds to the question: What are the stated goals for their children, and reasons behind their school choice for parents of third-grade Spanish Immersion students in an urban Midwestern public school? To gather answers to this question, parents completed surveys, rating the factors that led them to choose Spanish Immersion Elementary. History and types of bilingual education programs are reviewed, as well as research on parental views of existing language immersion programs. The paper discusses how the survey was developed and distributed, and its results are analyzed. Reflection on the results, limitations of the study, and further research steps are offered in the concluding chapter.
