Abstract
The research question addressed in this capstone: how effectively can I reduce math anxiety in fourth grade students? The motivating factor for this capstone was the authors own math anxiety as a child and the struggle to help fourth grade students with math anxiety. The author documents the research behind the five teaching techniques that were chosen in an effort to reduce math anxiety for a set of fourth grade students. She also describes how she developed the math anxiety survey that was given to the students. She uses techniques recommended by Martinez and Martinez as well as Ruffins and other experts. She concludes that these techniques work to reduce math anxiety for students who do not strongly agree that they are not good at math.
