Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was what is student reaction to integrating analogies into a high school biology course? It documents integrating analogies into a biology course. The author documents the details of the integration and uses related research literature to construct meaning and validate the study. After students completed a lesson on a biology topic the students used an anchoring table to organize their understanding of the analogies. The teacher used a survey to explore student reaction to using analogies and analyzed the data. She describes both the success and struggles in integrating analogies and concludes that students found analogies useful in learning biology information and understood the analogies used in biology, but they did not find anchoring tables useful in learning biology.
