Abstract
The research question addressed is, what impact do the visual arts have on Kindergarten through twelfth grade learning? Art education has been linked to academic achievement, student engagement, motivation and social skills. When the arts are integrated into the core subject areas such as English, math, science and social studies, the student's understanding is enriched and enlivened at every age and every stage. Key influences for this capstone include two educator interviews. These interviews incorporate learning through Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS). VTS is a visual arts program geared towards Kindergarten through fifth grade. VTS fosters and empowers creativity, critical thinking, vocabulary development, visual literacy and student confidence.
