Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was how does the use of role play increase an English Language Learners' reading comprehension in the areas of literal and inferential comprehension as well as key vocabulary? The motivating factor for this capstone was the integration of role play into reading curriculum for ELLs. Key influence for this capstone was inspired by the work of Howard Gardner and the incorporation of role-play into the ESL classroom. The author develops a role-play integrated reading lesson that will be taught to second grade ELLs and documents the results of the study in the following areas: 1) literal comprehension before and after the use of role-play 2) inferential comprehension before and after the use of role-play 3) vocabulary comprehension both before and after the use of role-play.
