Abstract
This study examines what English curriculum topics English teachers in Madagascar feel are relevant for students in order to inform a future curriculum design that serves the economic developmental goals of the Malagasy people. Key resources on this study included former Peace Corps volunteers, colleagues, government documents and researchers including Appleby, Pennycook, and Imam. This study surveyed twenty-one Malagasy and foreign teachers of English in Madagascar to collect information about their views of English curriculum topics. The study concluded that: 1) the curriculum should include the following topics Job Skills, Tourism, Business, Taking the BAC, Applying to University and Internet/Computer Use 2) the importance of communicating about Malagasy culture in English should be reexamined it can be connected to tourism 3) further work should be done to empower the Malagasy to develop their own curriculum.
