Abstract
This study explored the support that Spanish-speaking families need from schools to help their children develop literacy. Two initial focus groups were held with Latino parents from the school. Based on the results of the groups, a Spanish reading night was held in which the parents learned a reading strategy that they could carry out while reading to their children in Spanish. The event was evaluated through a questionnaire and a follow-up focus group. The study found that the parents thought the Spanish reading night was beneficial and they were able to participate in the presented activities at home with their children.
