Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was, What are the best practices for teaching language arts in the dual immersion setting? Findings suggest that in order for students to achieve the benefits of receiving a dual immersion education, programs must be implemented thoughtfully. Thematic and integrated units that combine language arts with other subject areas are imperative. This project includes a language arts unit for fourth graders that integrates language arts with the content area of science. Students are led through a book study of El color de mis palabras, written by Lynn Joseph. They are also led through a variety of learning activity about matter. The unit includes assessments, daily plans and materials needed.
