Abstract
The research question this project seeks to answer is: What does research support as an appropriate model for English literacy instruction in K-1 classrooms in a two-way immersion program? The literature reviewed gives a basis for re-evaluating current two-way immersion and other dual-language programs. The motivation for this study came from the desire to establish an effective framework to be used for English literacy instruction at the Kindergarten and First grade levels in order to address the current low English literacy achievement levels experienced at this elementary two-way immersion school. Using Escamilla, et al. Biliteracy From the Start (2014) and Beeman & Urow's Teaching for Biliteracy (2013) as guides, the author develops a curricular framework that promotes English literacy development appropriate to a two-way immersion setting.
