Abstract
The research question addressed in this action research project was, does using outdoor learning experience enhance science writing? The researcher noticed an increase in science writing performance whenever middle school students experience a related outdoor learning opportunity. This study reviews several learning philosophies and theories, reviews writing as a learning tool in science and environmental education, and reveals the importance of modeling and reflective writing. The researcher develops a writing lesson, which incorporates science, environmental education, technology, and literacy with the sixth grade class. Successes and struggles associated with various facets of the unit are examined
