Abstract

The research question addressed in this project was, how can effective models of instruction be used for English Learners in primary grades? The main motivation behind this project was to figure out why one instructional model for English Learners would be preferable over another, specifically push--in vs. pull--out. While research revealed a wealth of information about both models of instruction, the author wanted to gain a student perspective and understand their experience with both models. Data was collected from students and teachers to better inform the author of experiences for both students and teachers who use these models. The data showed that students preferred the pull--out model for instruction while the teachers preferred the push--in model.
