Abstract
This capstone focuses on best practices for guided reading instruction for students in grades K-2. Some examples in this book come from a Spanish Immersion elementary school, and the book is made to be a resource for all teachers. The curriculum included is meant to be a guide for early career teachers who desire extra guidance for their literacy block and guided reading instruction. The capstone begins with a personal overview of the author's experiences with literacy. Next, Chapter Two provides an extensive literature review of best practices for a balanced literacy block, reading instruction and guided reading. Later, in Chapter Three, the author discusses her setting, participants and procedures. Chapter Four contains a curriculum of guided reading lesson plans for emergent and early readers. Finally, Chapter Five contains the author's reflection, implications and limitations of the study.
