Abstract
The research question addressed is, how can adolescent males become more engaged in independent reading? The purpose of this capstone was to examine why some adolescent males are disengaging from independent reading and how to encourage them to do more independent reading. The author documents details why males disengage and uses related research literature to construct meaning and strategies on how to engage boys in more independent reading. The strategy the author develops is a boy's only book club. A boy's book club curriculum is provided for adolescent boys. The curriculum includes, surveys, boy's book lists, how to select a book, check lists, community building activities, and a recommended book lists. Overall, results indicated that there are many different reasons adolescent males are not reading independently and many strategies to get adolescent boy's to read more independently.
