Abstract
The research questions addressed in this capstone are: 1) Does a one-time, one hour long, informal presentation on the earth's water create a greater understanding of this topic for 4th graders? 2) How does it affect their understanding? The methodology to answer the two questions included students completing a short pre-test survey on their understanding of earth's water, viewing a one time, one hour long presentation from the Science Museum of Minnesota entitled Water, and completing a short post-test survey two weeks after viewing the presentation. Literatures from both formal and informal philosophies of education are presented. Conclusions validate the use of the Science Museum of Minnesota's Water program as an effective tool to enrich student understanding of the Earth's water.
