Abstract
This study was conducted to determine whether community building strategies could improve the collaboration among an alternative school population through a week long community building course. The methodology I used will focus on a variety of community building and character education activities during the week long course. The assessments revealed that before the community building week 46% of the students felt that they were included in our school community and 69% of the students respect my class. After the community building week course those numbers changed, 64% of the students felt that they were included in our school community, and 84% of the students now respect my class. The statistics show that students have positive attitudes towards one another and now have a stronger sense of belonging which was the primary focus for creating community building week.
