Abstract
Formative assessment is a valuable tool in improving student motivation, learning and achievement. This capstone project explored how students describe the experience of using formative assessment as a learning tool. The research was done in a rural high school Biology classroom. The results indicate that the students involved in the study have a very positive reaction to using formative assessment and they wish that it was used more in the classroom. The students also indicated that they think it helps to improve student understanding, performance, classroom environment, and motivation.
