Abstract
Two areas of greatest need when it comes to the language and literacy development of English Language Learners are comprehension and vocabulary. The purpose of this case study was to look at various strategies for comprehension and vocabulary development for this specific population of learners. Strategies investigated included: Word Walls, Vocabulary Role-Playing, Vocabulary Processing, Multiple Modes of Input and Output (MMIO), and Attribute Charting. Lessons were designed to focus on each strategy, and the effectiveness of each strategy was also considered.
