Abstract
This capstone addresses the question of how can learning centers be created and evaluated to support Guided Reading in a second grade classroom. The study documents the motivation and journey of an elementary teacher transitioning from using a basal reading curriculum, to a guided reading model that utilizes learning stations. It includes the motivation, definition, creation, implementation, and evaluation of the environmental classroom remodel and learning stations. The author describes both success and struggles while implementing the learning stations. After the research ended, the writing continued during a time of implementation, reflection, and a need for further research. A post script was included because the research was completed over several years, and the anecdotal reflections were an important part of the learning process.
