Abstract
The research question addressed in this capstone project was, what are the benefits of incorporating a scheduled read aloud plan in an upper elementary classroom. This capstone explored six opportunities a day to incorporate read alouds into an upper elementary classroom as suggested in the book, Learning under the Influence of Language and Learning: Making the Most of Read-Alouds across the Day, by Lester Laminack and Reba Wadsworth. The author explores the notion that reading aloud to our children is the single most important activity to build the knowledge they need for continued reading success and that we need to continue to read aloud to our children throughout their lives, and not stop once they learn how to read and leave the primary grades. This capstone also has a compiled lists of reading texts and picture books to teach different genres and themes in the classrooms.
