Abstract
Statistics have shown an increasing need to motivate boys in the classroom particularly the literacy classroom. Brain research concludes that boys and girls learn differently. This study incorporates gender based brain research from researchers including Wolfe, Gurian, Fletcher and other experts to gather a collaboration of experts' seven best practices for teachers to use in the literacy classroom to motivate boys. The following are the research based practices incorporated into the literature unit created for the purpose of this capstone: choice, movement, grouping, male and teacher role modeling, sensory and visuals, structure and inquiry.
