Abstract
The research question addressed in this capstone is how do I launch a fourth grade writing curriculum that contributes to creative and technical growth while integrating all curricular areas? This capstone outlines the format of this writing curriculum as well as describing specific lessons for the first month of school. The curriculum rests on three major tenets the implementation of writer's workshop, use of the 6 Traits of Writing, and curriculum integration in writing. It is based on the beliefs of Lucy Calkins (1986/1994), Donald Graves (1983/2003) and many other writing researchers. The launch of this writing curriculum will provide the basis for a year of valuable writing experiences for both teacher and students.
