Abstract
Parental involvement has been shown to have a positive effect on student achievement. This capstone examines current research on parental involvement and the cultural, societal and economic factors that may affect a parent's involvement. This capstone also discusses what research has found to be effective in increasing parental involvement. Through surveys and parent interviews, the author gathered feedback regarding the beliefs and needs of parents with students in kindergarten and first grade. Suggestions for increasing parental involvement are given based on the survey and interview results.
