Abstract
The research in this capstone is based on phonological awareness and oral language experts such as Lane and Pullen and Snow and Resnick. The research that is captured in this paper proves that phonological awareness and oral language are two of the most important components in early literacy development. They are the foundations of language that should precede beginning reading in order for students to be most successful. Along with the research, there are phonological awareness and oral language lesson plans that were created so that they could be used to teach these concepts in kindergarten classrooms.
