Abstract
Making intrapersonal connections and building relationships is at the heart of a true community. The purpose of this capstone was to explore community building and answer how morning meeting can build community in a kindergarten classroom. To answer this question, the author created a community building curriculum for a full day kindergarten classroom that incorporated the components of a morning meeting and focused on supporting and promoting social interactions. The author describes the success of the project and concludes that morning meeting can successfully build community because it includes the following factors: 1) the teacher needs to maintain a positive relationship with her students 2) the teacher needs to include community building activities that promote belonging, reveal student connections, and encourage positive social interaction 3) the teacher needs to support positive socialization by incorporating a social curriculum that models appropriate social skills and gives the students ample time to practice.
