Abstract
This capstone, One Teacher's Professional Change Through Implementation of Interactive Read Alouds in an Urban Second Grade Classroom, investigates how does a teacher experience professional change implementing interactive read alouds to support student engagement in a second grade urban classroom? The author utilized reflective ethnography, as well as autoethnography to blend current research literature, personal narratives, and honest reflection to create a deeper and more meaningful understanding of the professional change experienced while also providing insight into other urban educators' experiences. Larger macrocapacities of successful urban classrooms are explored as well as interactive read aloud microskills and practical interactive read-aloud planning, rituals and routines.
