Abstract
For today's students, success in a global economy will take explicit instruction in literacy skills. Training and support for teachers is paramount to the integration of literacy instruction across curricular areas. This Capstone created a working structure for the training and support of teachers in a suburban high school. In an effort to provide relevant professional development to staff a survey and task force were created. The survey provided data on literacy topics of interest. The task force participated in relevant training and provided feedback that guided future professional development opportunities. Gathering data to create relevant training with attention to various formats led to positive results. The research is clear that students today are in need of different literacy skill sets than in the previous century. Training and support of teachers is the way to accomplish this task and should be relevant with varied formats.
