Abstract
The research question addressed is, how does participation in service learning impact students' attitudes toward Spanish? It documents the attitudes of Spanish students prior to, during, and after participating in service learning projects. The teacher experiences different levels of success based on which of the projects the students participate in. The three projects that are accomplished are making a Spanish video for recent immigrants about emergency procedures, lunch account information, and absence reporting procedures, development of a brochure about community resources available to speakers of Spanish, and tutoring of student who speak Spanish and have emerging English skills. The element necessary for optimal success with the implementation of service learning projects in her Spanish classroom, was direct contact with the speakers of Spanish.
