Abstract
Steblay asks the question, what are the integral elements for fostering child development in a preschool setting? The literature review and related survey address seven key areas related to fostering child development: 1. Intentional social development, 2. Oral language, 3. Print-rich environment, 4. Music, 5. Downtime, 6. Physical activity and movement, 7. Creative expression and play. The survey takes place in an Early Childhood Family Education center in a suburban city with a population of about 60,000 inhabitants. Those surveyed are licensed early childhood educators and licensed parent educators. The open-ended survey questions allowed for great variation in categorical answers by the respondents. All educators surveyed were asked to rank the importance of curriculum related strategies and provide any additional comments to clarify or expound upon their answers.
