Abstract

This capstone explores the strategies of vocabulary instruction, building background knowledge, and cooperative learning and how they can be used to help English Learners increase the achievement in fourth-grade Science. Each of these strategies was researched using several different sources. These strategies were implemented in to the daily instruction during a unit covering Electricity and Magnetism in a fourth-grade classroom. Results of the instructional strategies and their effectiveness in helping English Learners increase their achievement in Science are also highlighted in the capstone.
