Course Description

Discover and explore Art Costa's 16 Habits of Mind which characterize efficient intelligent problem-solvers. What are the characteristics of effective, creative problem solvers? How can educators create school and classroom conditions to learn, practice and assess, and report students' growth toward mastery of these behaviors? Develop teaching and assessment strategies that apply the Habits of Mind, collect evidence of these characteristics, and communicate data indicating growth of these habits. Describe the indicators of their mastery. Engage students' higher order thinking abilities. Incorporate the Habits of Mind into all content areas. Create a classroom environment where creativity, thoughtfulness, and problem solving are signaled, valued and practiced. Target audience: teachers K-12; administrators; librarians; staff developers; curriculum and instruction directors; teacher educators.
