Course Description
This course is designed to provide K-6 teachers with a working knowledge of the essential elements of science-based reading methods and assessment practices. Topics to be addressed include the five elements that the National Reading Panel concluded must be present in a comprehensive reading program: phonemic awareness, phonics and word study, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency. This course will also explore the Common Core standards and the Response to Intervention framework as they relate to reading instruction in elementary grades.
