Course Description

Beginning to advanced guitar, mountain dulcimer, and banjo (mountain or tenor) players are welcome. Learn beginning techniques of guitar, mountain dulcimer, and banjo playing and how to use them to accompany songs in your classroom. Basic tuning, fingerings, picking patterns, and chord progressions will be covered, as well as several folk songs appropriate for classroom use. Although primary concern is with song accompaniment and use in the classroom, the history and different playing styles of each instrument will also be discussed. You must furnish your own acoustic instruments. Target audience: teachers K-6.; music teachers K-12.
