Course Description

In this course we explore the language and history of one of the most vivid passages in the Hebrew Bible: Exodus 3-4 - Moses at the burning bush. The text will be studied in four versions: The Masoretic Hebrew text, the Septuagint, the Aramaic Targum Onkelos, and the New Revised Standard Version English translation. The primary goals of the course are 1) to compare and contrast varying versions of this pivotal text in light of their respective histories and functions, and 2) to provide students who have Hebrew, Greek, or Aramaic language skills with the opportunity to apply them exegetically. Pre-requisite: At least one term of college level Hebrew, Greek, or Aramaic, or the equivalent.
