Course Description
This course will explore the relationship between creditors (those to whom obligations are owed) and debtors (those who owe). Specifically, we will explore the permissible methods for seeking satisfaction of debts and the methods by which debtors may seek relief from or discharge of their debt under both the Minnesota collection laws and Federal Bankruptcy laws. We will also consider what legal professionals must keep in mind when counseling clients, negotiating, and resolving disputes with or without litigation. In particular, we will examine the work of paralegals, as this area of law relies heavily on their assistance. This class will be taught in a hybrid format, meeting in-person one day per week and meeting online for other class delivery.
