Course Description
Goals: To introduce students to the theory and practice of translation and, to a lesser extent, oral interpreting. Students will improve their language skills through a series of applied translation exercises, and will demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge and fulfill the Hamline Plan Q by completing an independent translation project. Content: Tuesdays: concise language review and applied Spanish-English/English-Spanish translation exercises that cover a large variety of texts (advertising, newspaper articles, science writing, jokes, instructions, etc.) Class meetings are highly collaborative. Thursdays: lectures, guest speakers (practicing professionals), exams and capstone colloquium. Taught: occasionally Credits: 4.0 Prerequisites: This advanced course is intended for students ready for 5000-level coursework in Spanish. The primary language of instruction is Spanish.
