Course Description
Goals: To learn about the Visual Arts in Latin America within the social, historical, political, and economic context of the region. To increase vocabulary and improve ability to speak in Spanish through class discussions and formal presentations on various topics. Content: We will study the various practices that make up the visual arts and how they manifest throughout the history of Latin America. To better understand the art-making process, students will create and present a quick sketch, collage or maquette inspired by class discussions. Students will research and present on various broad topics relating to the visual arts and how they manifest in different parts of Latin America. Students will undertake a more focused research on a particular artist or regional art practice to present at the conclusion of the class. Recommended prerequisite: SPAN 3900 or 3910. 4 credits
