In this online class, we will study an array of subgenres, including memoir (Bechdel, Thompson), superhero (Moore, Miller), and young adult (Yang, Ryan). We will focus on how the text and image harmonize to create a multi layered experience that is cinematic and linguistic, and how, as writers, we can harness that interplay for narrative efficiency, emotional resonance, and dramatic irony. Discussions will be held via Blackboard, workshop will be done via letters and students will have one individual Skype conference with the instructor.
